Three
men in possession of five guns, live ammunition and 40kg of dagga have
been arrested, Kwazulu-Natal police said on Saturday.
Two AK 47 rifles, three pistols, eleven live rounds of
AK 47 ammunition and two 20 kilogram bags of dagga were seized and three
suspects arrested during a clandestine police operation in Estcourt on
Friday, said Lt-Col Vincent Mdunge.
"The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Taxi Task Team gathered
intelligence on the suspects and staked out the homestead in Amangwe
(Loskop) for over a week before swooping in yesterday afternoon and
catching the suspects off guard," he said.
One of the assault rifles was believed to have been used in two murders that were committed in the area earlier in the year.
The men aged between 35 and 57 would appear in the Estcourt Magistrate's Court on Monday.
